Back4Good/Healthy Backs Sessions

Healthy Backs sessions take place as either a small group session with a maximum of 8 people, or a 121. This enables me to really get to know you, what movements cause pain or discomfort and what you would like to get out of the classes. I complete a thorough movement assessment, and give you the confidence to exercise safely to achieve your goals.

During healthy backs sessions you will learn alignment, breathing and centring (core stability) in a supportive environment. Once these basic are learnt, you will be taught a series of exercises designed to help you control your movements and improve your posture, improving both the strength and flexibility of your back.

More importantly I am able to better help clients self manage their condition (through exercise), by providing them with a better understanding of  their pain, and the confidence to continue with their hobbies, interests, and activities of daily living.

With over 80% of the adult population experiencing lower back pain at some point in their lives,  the Back4Good qualification seemed the best way for me to improve my skills and knowledge and help people to better manage their back pain. This extensive training and examination, exclusively related to exercise referral and lower back pain has given me a Level 4 Advanced Exercise qualification which I completed in July 2012. The training programme is accredited by Skill Active and the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS), who oversee quality and standards for the UK fitness industry.

In the 2009 publication of medical guidelines it was recommended that people with persistent low back pain should be encouraged to stay physically active and exercise. I am trained to help people with non specific lower back pain, and as such I have specific skills and knowledge of lower back pain, its causes, consequences and treatment rehabilitation strategies.
